Scarti Cultural Association, with the support of Regione Siciliana, Provincia Regionale di Catania and Comune di Acireale, organizes the 9th edition of
Magma –mostra di cinema breve, international short film festival
1) The Festival, opened to directors and works from all around the world, will be held in Acireale (CT) – Italy.
2) In order to enter the competition, applicants must send a DVD copy of the short film together with a printed copy of the entry form by March 31st 2010. All submissions should be addressed to:

Copies of films submitted on formats other than PAL (e.g. NTSC, Secam) will
not be taken into consideration for selection.
3) The short films to be included in the festival will be selected by a members committee of Scarti Cultural Association. Copies sent for pre-selection will not be returned and will be stored in the archive of Scarti Cultural Association, where they will be made available for consultation, study or cataloguing and as reference materials for other festivals. They may also be used for any possible repeat screenings.
4)Besides sending a copy of the short film, applicants must fill in the entry form available on the website www.magmafestival.org and send a photo of the author and a film still (in JPEG format) to the e-mail address selezioni@magmafestival.org. By submitting these photos applicants authorize their free and public diffusion, both in the festival catalogue and for promotional purposes.
5) Short films submitted without the above required documentation may not be admitted to selection.
6) The selected directors will be notified by 15th June. As soon as possible they will provide a screeing copy and send a MinyDv PAL to the same address mentioned above.
7) Shipping costs to submit films to selection will be borne by the applicant.
8 ) While due care is taken to keep the received works safe, Scarti Cultural Association cannot be held responsible for any theft, damage or loss that may occur to them whilst in transit.
9) The festival is divided in 4 sections:
a. Narrative short films;
b. Documentary short films;
c. Experimental short films;
d. Animated short films.
Maximum length allowed for each film is 20 minutes
10) The production date of the works must be no earlier than January 2008.
11) Each author may submit more than one short film, but only one entry can be submitted for each section.
12) Each author is held responsible for the content of their own works.
13) Short films in languages other than Italian must be provided with subtitles either in English or Italian. Works in languages other than Italian without subtitles (in English or Italian) will not receive consideration.
14) The Festival Organizational Committee reserves the right to use a trailer (max. 45 seconds) of each selected film for promotional purposes.
15) Participation in the festival is free of charge. All shipping costs must be borne by the applicants and will not be refunded. Works admitted to the final phase of the Festival will not be entitled to any form of payment.
16) Selected short films will be screened according to a schedule published on the festival official website prior to the start of the event and they will be judged by a jury that will award the Lorenzo Vecchio Prize to the winning short film of Magma.
17) The jury will also give a special mention to the best short film from each section. The Festival Organizational Committee reserves the right to decide to award other prizes prior to the start of the event.
18) Film copies dispatched from non-EU member countries must be marked “Without commercial value. For cultural purposes only” or mention a similar statement.
19) Once short films have been submitted for pre-selection, under no circumstances may they be withdrawn from the Festival.
20) Submission of the entry form to Magma – mostra di cinema breve implies unconditional acceptance of all the above mentioned rules and regulations.
21) According to the Italian Law 675/96 and subsequent modifications, personal data provided by applicants will only be used in relation to the competition.
22) Decisions of the Festival Organizational Committee regarding all matters not expressly provided for in these regulations or which require interpretation of the clauses mentioned above shall be final and binding on all parties. Catania Law Court is held responsible for any other controversial matter and the Italian version of this text is the only one to refer to.
