Traditionally, every year, the International Videofestival invites a partner festival, with which it shares certain features, to present itself among the guests and participants. This year, Magma - mostra di cinema breve is the guest festival representing Italy at Bochum. The presentation of Magma’s selection will take place during a Videobrunch on saturday morning, the 31st of May, Videofestival’s last day.

The German Festival focuses mainly on the international video competition. This year they are presenting 33 productions coming from all over the world. Many videos derive from Germany, but also videos from Russia, Australia, Austria or Mexico are going to be screened. The videos are shown in 6 blocks, which are exhibited in the big hall of the Musisches Zentrum during the three festival days. After each block there will be a possibility for discussions. Two juries award several winners.

Bochum International Videofestival was born 18 years ago from the idea of a group of german students interested in every form of visual expression. The festivaI, still and strongly linked with the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, receives every year more than 500 short films, from experimentals to fiction, documentaries and videoclips. Hundreds of directors and artists from every corner of the world have come to Bochum to take part in the festival.

Since 2002, some specials and vj exibitions animate the festival nights and support the usual programme based on the official competition of short films judged by an international jury.
