Internationales Videofestival Bochum 2008
Internationales Videofestival Bochum
Since its debut in 1991, the Internationales Videofestival Bochum has been gradually growing year after year. The comprehensive programme, which has always been organized mainly by Ruhr-University students, features many ambitious topics and, moreover, constitutes an exciting challenge next to everyday university life.
As a venue of creative idea exchange for international artists and art enthusiasts, the event is a highly frequented platform with a unique character.
Together with the international competition, International Videofestival Bochum presents various framing programmes such as the experimental, the music, and the documentary special. They are especially proud to present the VJ contest for the 7th time in a row, thus being the only videofestival to offer a competition for visual jockeys and performers.
No question: the Videofestival enriches the cultural life of the metropolis Ruhr and has established itself firmly as a vital part of it.

A possible end – An homage to Waiting for Godot, Deniz Arslan
The chirping of birds over the black frame prepares us for a fork in the country road, with two paths leading from the foreground to the background, both of them into the future. The brightly colored composition ranges from a lush bright green to a pleasant ochre and a clear sky blue: two men wearing hats enter this classic scene.
Angels die in the soil,Babak Amini
An Iraqi-Kurdish girl earns a living for her ill father by selling Iranian soldiers’ bones remaining from the Iran-Iraq war. One day, on her way back home, she comes across a terrorist incident involving an American soldier and she tries to help him.
People react differently in different situations. A girl now has to decide how to continue her life, make choices and also react to a completely new and strange situation, which could be relatively difficult for a 14-year-old girl.
Market Sentiments, Barbara Musil
The film presents satellite pictures of landscapes. Borderlines appear in combination with orchestral music and question the nature of possession and territory.
Space Reptile Lewis, Christopher Schilz
“Lewis the lizard” is a reformed criminal. No longer a threat to society, he begins a new life in harmony with nature, but the idyllic peace is soon disturbed: Lewis is kidnapped by an alien and falls victim to his strange experiments. Lewis manages to escape and after a long odyssey ends up on a remote planet. He falls back into delinquency and becomes a space pirate. After travelling around the galaxy with his pirate crew, he has a confrontation with his former captor and finally takes revenge.
A very short film about my life.
“chord” is an interplay of dance, music and colour. It is about self-consciousness and relationships with others.
Laia sees herself in the reflection of a small lake. This changes her way of looking at things and people. All of a sudden, another woman approaches from the dark background, confronting Laia with herself, just before a third woman joins the group.
