“Tadeo Jones” was created in 2002 by Enrique Gato who, after finishing his previous short film ‘Bicho’, decided to create a new character in order to focus his work in a different direction. He wanted to leave aside the passiveness of ‘Bicho’ and start with something much more dynamic and action-packed. But, after finishing the model and making a small animation test, Tadeo was kept apart waiting for the development of a script for him. In the meanwhile, a new project called ‘Superlopez’ was started, a little short film where new storytelling and graphic techniques were tested, all of them used later in ‘Tadeo Jones’. ‘Superlópez’ to honor the old Spanish comic character created by JAN. After the first animation tests, the first short film for Tadeo Jones was born in November 2004 and it tried to tell a funny and surprising adventure with an unusual graphic quality. It was a spectacular success. The short film received 65 national and international awards, including the Goya award for the best animated short film in 2006, the Golden Catalina at the Cartagena de Indias International Film Festival, was awarded as the best Spanish production at Art Futura 2005 and as the best national animated short film at Mundos Digitales 2005. And finally, at the end of 2005, he decided to create a new animated short film with a very clear goal: enhancing his project’s technical, artistic, and storytelling potential. He wanted to show off his great product, with very high quality worthy of an animated feature-length film. So in February 2006 “Tadeo Jones and the basement of doom” was born, a very ambitious short film which intends to be another step on the way to future projects…
