Since 2002 Magma festival has given its audience the chance to see uncommon, high-quality films which, by experimenting with different styles and techniques, recount real life stories and great adventures. Look ad the selected films in our last edition!

The Lorenzo Vecchio Award is named after the creator of Magma, who died at the young age of twenty-three after directing the first three festival editions. The award is given by the Jury to the best short film of the festival.

Directors, jurors and film industry experts are the vital essence of each festival edition! Besides getting them to meet up and exchange ideas, we also like helping them to discover the beauties of Acireale, Mount Etna and try out the most amazing Sicilian food!

A cultural project that for 18 years has added value to the local area showcasing the best of  international short films.

During the 18th edition – with 950 short films submitted from all over the world – the Lorenzo Vecchio Award went to the Belgian short film Détours by Christopher Yates; the Audience Award went to You are Overreacting by Karina Paciorkowska.
Special mentions for (F)our Seasons by Miguél Gabaldon and The traffic separating device by Johan Palmgren.
